Newcastle United incoming signing could prevent bidding war for Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Reims striker Hugo Ekitike’s move to Newcastle could spell the end for any potential bidding war for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It has been revealed by the Daily Mail [1 June], that Eddie Howe is closing in on a deal for the 19-year-old French striker.

Newcastle had been rumoured [The Mirror, 31 May] to be interested in bringing the England striker to Tyneside, however, with news of their new signing a move for Calvert-Lewin could now be over.

Everton

Calvert-Lewin is of interest to Manchester United and Arsenal [The Mirror] as well as Newcastle, but any potential bidding war could’ve now been quashed after the mega rich Magpies look set to secure Ekitike’s signature.

Frank Lampard would’ve been content to allow the three Premier League giants to battle it out for the 25-year-old with a potential bidding war bumping the England international’s price up.

Now that the Saudi back Magpies could be out of the race, Arsenal and United could both try and secure the striker’s services for a cut-price.

Arsenal will be working on a relatively small budget after their Champions League qualification heartache and will not be forced into paying over the odds for the striker.

Everton

As for United it has been reported [Sport Bible, 1 June] that the Red Devils want to take advantage of Everton’s dire financial situation and secure the forward’s services for £40million.

If the Toffees wanted to raise funds and let the striker leave Goodison Park then they would’ve been hoping for their Premier League rivals to raise his value in a bidding war.

Lampard shouldn’t sell the striker unless they recieve their valuation of the England international.

Calvert-Lewin is a player who is coming into his prime years and could well be a success at Goodsion Park in the future.

With the striker now unlikely to move for a large transfer fee the Everton striker could well have a future at the Toffees beyond this summer.

In other Everton news, the FA have followed up that move with a new charge for a key Toffees figure just a day later, but he seems not to care based on his defiant response online.
