Sky Sports pundit predicts £170million development to impact on Everton chase for Brennan Johnson
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Everton might be forced to wait a year to continue their chase of top transfer target Brennan Johnson according to Kevin Campbell.
The Daily Mail had reported recently that the Nottingham Forest attacker was top of the club’s wish-list along with James Tarkowski and they were “readying” a £20million bid for him dependent on the outcome of the playoff final.
But after his side beat Huddersfield 1-0 to be promoted to the Premier League Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes that the influx of cash from what Deloitte calls “the most lucrative cash prize in world football” – valued at £170million – means they no longer have to sell and the player will want a season with his current club.

“Look, money talks in this game,” he said, speaking exclusively to Goodison News.
“The fact that Brennan Johnson’s come up with Forest, if Everton want him is he going to be playing?
“I think there’s five or six suitors for the young man, very good player.
“The key to all this is his feeling for Forest. He’s come through the ranks at Forest. He’s just got promotion with Forest. He might want a season in the Premier League with Forest.
“I don’t want to speak for the young man but I just think he’s that type of lad that he’ll want a season in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest because he’s Forest born and bred.”

Judging by Johnson’s words to a Nottingham crowd after the Wembley victory he does have that attachment to the club and would like to play in the Premier League with them.
He said, via Nottinghamshire Live: “Yesterday was the best day of my life. I can’t wait to play here next season.”
It would certainly make him far more expensive if clubs do continue to go after him this summer, and with the financial condition the Toffees are in that may make him prohibitive for now, but depending on how the newly promoted side do he could be a viable option in the next couple of windows.
In other Everton news, there seems to be a different set of reactions from the FA when it comes to dealing with Everton or Liverpool.
