Everton target James Tarkowski has ‘close’ relationship with Michael Keane, could boost transfer hopes
Everton target James Tarkowski is “close” to Toffees’ centre-half Michael Keane according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.
It has been reported [Daily Mail, 2 June] that Everton are confident of securing a deal for the former Burnley man.
Brown has suggested that the 29-year-old is close to Everton defender Keane from their time at Turf Moor

As quoted by GIVEMESPORT on Friday [3 June], Brown said: “He is a good player who I think is actually quite underrated.
“He has been very, very important to Burnley for years and will probably slot in quite well next to Michael Keane.
“They know each other and played together in the same team a few times at Burnley.
“They seem to be quite close, actually.”
Doesn’t make sense
With Kevin Thelwell and Frank Lampard looking to change Everton’s recruitment model, a move for the 29-year old doesn’t quite make sense.
Everton need to be targeting players that are on an upward trajectory who could add value to the Toffees’ side as opposed to targeting older players on big contracts.
Tarkowski is an older player who will be demanding a healthy wage packet at Goodison Park.
Have the Toffees not learnt from their previous mistakes?

Their squad is littered with underperforming high-earners and they need to clear as many of them out as they possibly can.
Tarkowski may be a free transfer but that shouldn’t trick Everton into believing this is a value for money signing.
The Burnley man will want a three-year deal at the bare minimum and his performance is only going to decline the older he gets.
If Lampard is lucky, he will get two to three good years out of the defender before he is deemed surplus to requirements and then let go for little to no profit.
Surely the Everton boss would be better off targeting a younger player who could become an asset for the Toffees in the future.
In other Everton news, a £170million development looks like it will make the Toffees wait in the pursuit of a key target.
