Fabrizio Romano: Everton in contact with Stephy Mavididi agent to seal new forward signing
Everton have approached the agents of Montpellier attacker Stephy Mavididi ahead of a potential move in the coming weeks, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Guardian journalist reported via his personal Twitter account on Friday morning (3 June) that Brighton, Southampton, West Ham and Marseille have also been in contact about a summer deal for the 24-year-old Englis h forward.
Romano adds that there’s a good chance Mavididi will move on from Montpellier “in the coming weeks” with a deal for him to leave the Ligue 1 club at the “early stages”.
Good signing?
Mavididi is one of few Englishmen tearing it up on the Continent.
He was in superb form for Montpellier in the 2021/22 Ligue 1 season, scoring eight goals and supplying three assists as his side finished 13th.
It was quite an underwhelming finish to the campaign by Montpellier and that may lead to Mavidivi wanting to try his hand elsewhere.
In Marseille, he’ll have a chance to continue playing in France after a good loan spell at Dijon from Juventus before he joined Montpellier.

However, we feel as though Mavididi might be better off returning to English football.
The former England youth international, who was born in Derby, started his career at Arsenal and had loan spells at Charlton and Preston before he eventually headed to the Continent to join Juventus.
He can play on the left-wing and as a striker so he should be a good fit for the Blues this summer as Frank Lampard needs the extra quality in both of those positions.
And if Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin leave Goodison Park this summer, there’ll be even more of a need for a player as versatile as Mavididi.
Everton’s progress might be slow this summer due to their Financial Fair Play situation but Mavididi seems to be a signing that’s doable.
In other Everton news, the Blues could be forced into a big sale as Alisher Usmanov’s name is mentioned in a transfer report.
