Everton could release several academy players this month
There looks set to be some big changes in the background at Everton as Kevin Thelwell takes a proper grab of the situation at Finch Farm.
The Toffees’ new director of football is currently advertising for a new Under-23 manager and academy director after David Unsworth, who held both roles, left the club in April.
Before he can hire somebody though, he will need to make tough decisions on the futures of several young players at the club and many of them could leave [Liverpool Echo].

Jack Barrett, Joe Anderson, Harry Hagan, Sebastien Kristensen, Einar Iversen, Mackenzie Hunt, Sean McAllister, Rhys Hughes, Liam Higgins and Rafa Garcia are all in the final month of their contract with the club and many of them are expected to leave as a result.
Hagan could be awarded a new deal having made his Under-23s debut during the 2021-22 season but Hughes looks set to hp across the River Mersey and play for Tranmere Rovers in League Two.
Standards
In the cut-throat world of the Premier League, no player can keep earning a new contract if they are not someone who is seen as a potential first-team player in the future.
Thelwell has to get together with manager Frank Lampard as well as academy coaches to identify which players they see as capable of performing in the Premier League and they need to be the ones on who the attention is focused.

It would be a huge waste of time and resources to keep all of these lads at the club for another year or two just to then release them once they’re in their 20s.
These boys need regular games now in all honesty and whether that be through loans away from the club or if they leave altogether it has to be done to ensure that their careers don’t fall off a cliff and we can reinvest time and resources into better and more promising young talent instead.
In other Everton news, a formal contract offer has been submitted by the Toffees for this international player who is available on a free transfer.
