Rob Green gushes over ‘Brilliant’ Jordan Pickford save for England v Germany

Rob Green was full of praise for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford after his save to deny Thomas Muller in England’s 1-1 draw against Germany in Munich.

The Everton man stretched to prevent the Bayern Munich attacker’s striker in what proved to be a pivotal moment as England snatched a draw courtesy of Harry Kane’s late penalty.

In an entertaining game, the Toffees’ number one maintained his good form and Green was full of praise.

On the BBC Sport live blog [21:21 7 June], Green said: ‘Brilliant save.

“Massive moment in the game.

“Pickford had to make up ground across goal.

“Muller would be happy with how he met that.”

Pickford and England

Pickford always performs for England, that is a given.

However, this season he has started to bring his excellent international form to Goodison Park more frequently.

His form towards the end of the season was a huge factor in the Toffees narrowly avoiding relegation in their penultimate game against Crystal Palace.

Pickford often comes under criticism for his performances for Everton and lapses of concentration but in recent months those errors have seemingly left his game.

The Everton keeper will maybe feel he could’ve done better with Jonas Hoffmann’s opener for Germany, but ultimately it was at point blank range and hard to judge for the keeper.

Pickford’s form over recent months has earnt him the odd mistake and his stop to deny Muller was a huge part in Gareth Southgate’s side picking up a valuable point.

It will be intriguing to see if Pickford remains at Everton beyond the end of the summer window.

Frank Lampard is looking to overhaul his poor Toffees squad and a move away from Goodison for Pickford could generate some much-needed funds for the Everton boss
