Everton defender Yerry Mina eyes Goodison Park exit in summer

Everton defender Yerry Mina is unlikely to stay at Goodison Park until the end of his contract, according to Spanish publication Marca.

The Colombian defender has one year left on his current deal, and he could be allowed to leave the club this summer, with Frank Lampard eyeing a squad overhaul.

Marca reports that Mina should either renew with the Toffees or the club will force his sale.

The chances of Mina staying at the club and running down his contract don’t seem likely. He wants to play which puts him in such a delicate situation at Everton

Under Lampard, the Toffees are looking to start a fresh journey after narrowly escaping relegation last season.

Lampard needs to make necessary changes and for that, he needs to free up the space for new additions.

At the same time, the Toffees boss probably won’t be given a huge pot of money in the transfer market, so he will have to be smart in buying players.

Mina only made 14 appearances last season (2021-22), and struggled badly with injuries.

When fit, he is arguably one of the best defenders at the club. Lampard hailed him as “pivotal” for the club in an interview with EvertonTV on 12 April.

However, there lies the big dilemma. He hardly stays fit, and it becomes almost impossible for any manager to keep faith in such a player.

If there’s a good offer on the table, Everton should consider selling him.

The club spent big money when they signed him from Barcelona, but they may have to sell him for cheap.
