Everton must make last-ditch effort to sign Donny van de Beek after latest reports

Everton must do everything in their power to persuade Donny van de Beek to stay at the club after the latest developments out of Old Trafford.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera on 8 June, the Netherlands international is ready to leave Manchester United.

The midfielder has offered himself to Serie A side Roma despite his former Ajax boss taking charge of the Red Devils.

The Blues’ chances of keeping the looked to be completely gone with his return to Manchester only a matter of time but there is now a glimmer of hope and they need to explore it after The Mirror reported on February 20 that he wanted to stay on Merseyside permanently.

Everton are in no position to judge other teams and how well they are doing but surely van de Beek would rather stay in the Premier League, playing at a club the size of Everton than join Roma?

The Serie A is hardly the most competitive league in the world and they only managed a sixth-place finish under Jose Mourinho in the 2021/22 campaign.

Admittedly, they did win the Europa Conference League but that is hardly the pinnacle of European football.

The 25-year-old’s immense talent would go to waste in Italy. He would undoubtedly shine but a player of his quality should be playing at a much better level and there aren’t many better places to be right now than the Premier League.

Frank Lampard has an excellent player, already established in the squad on his hands here – you would struggle to find many better replacements in the market without spending a lot of money.

Given van de Beek’s experience playing at the highest level and that he fits the boss’ system like a glove, the Blues would be stupid not to make a last-ditch effort to sign him permanently.
