Manchester City want to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester City are lining up a sensational swoop for Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite this summer, according to ExWHUemployee [June 8].

Branthwaite made eight appearances for the Toffees in the 2021/22 campaign, scoring the equaliser against Chelsea in his first start of the season and getting sent off in the 2-1 defeat to Brentford.

But according to Ex on his new “Transfers Podcast”, who is well known for his inside scoops for West Ham on his Patreon account, his future at Goodison Park is in doubt as Premier League champions Manchester City are showing an interest and Frank Lampard isn’t convinced that he’s ready to be a starter at the club.

“There has been talk as well that [Jarrad] Branthwaite will join Manchester City,” he said.

“Manchester City are looking to get some young, English talent there and see him as a potential target.

“If they don’t sign him, Lampard is considering loaning him out because he’s not sure if he’s 100 percent set to be an Everton regular. So it will be interesting to see where he goes.

“He’s obviously a talented player, and Lampard does like to play youth. But if Manchester City do move for him as well then it’ll be hard to hold on to him.”

Wow

Branthwaite showed great glimpses of his talent and ability while playing last season, but he also showed a lack of experience at the top level too.

The only way to get that is to play through bad form, and Lampard is a coach who tends to trust young players so you’d think he would know that.

If Man City are knocking at the door then it tells you how good a player he is and the club should be looking to develop him for ourselves, rather than let someone else nurture him for a quick buck.

Carlo Ancelotti name-checked him as skilful during his time at the club and now Pep Guardiola wants him as part of his title winning squad. All the information is there for the club to keep hold of him and use him regularly.

A loan move wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world, but selling him would be a shocking decision by the board and management unless the offer is simply too good to refuse.

He currently has a contract that runs until 2025 with the option of another year, so there is no pressure to sell for a minimal fee either. This is a chance to be smart.
