Everton will try again to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes
Everton are set to try again to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes this summer after coming close 12 months ago, according to Foot Mercato.
The 23-year-old is also attracting the interest of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United after a stellar season in Portugal as he contributed massively to their run to second in the Primeira Liga.
The Toffees tried to sign the Portuguese international last summer and were very close to completing a deal, according to CM Journal, and it could have been completed for just £17million.

But they now may have to pay more than triple that price as Sporting are set to only accept offers that match his £52million release clause in this transfer window.
The Portuguese club have already rejected an offer of £39million for one of their key players who played 33 times in the league last season.
Too much
You can bet your bottom dollar that those who failed to get this deal over the line 12 months ago will be reeling at missing out because they are going to have to dig deep in their pockets this time around.
They had themselves a bargain at just £17million and chose not to take the necessary steps to complete the deal and they look very foolish now.

With the financial worries surrounding Goodison Park, we can’t afford to spend big on anybody this summer, especially if we don’t sell any of our star players.
That already puts us on the backfoot but then you add in the mega-rich Newcastle with their Saudi Arabian owners pumping millions into the Magpies’ coffers and it suddenly seems nye on impossible.
Frank Lampard would love a midfielder with his technical ability but the simple fact of the matter is that £52million is too much and we need to look for much cheaper alternatives instead.
In other Everton news, the Toon may not have the financial power that everyone expects as they have seemingly been priced out of a move for this Evertonian.
