Everton battle Tottenham to sign Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao

Everton are pushing for a move to sign Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao, according to Tutto Udinese.

The Italian media outlet, which has over 17,000 Facebook followers and specialises in stories at Udinese, reports that the Brazilian defender enjoyed an “excellent” 2021-22 campaign, and the Toffees have come forward to sign him.

Frank Lampard’s side are likely to face competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham for his signature.

It would take a fee in the region of £12.8million to £17million to secure his signature.

Interesting

Becao was one of the consistent performers for Udinese last season.

Since, joining the Italian club, he has been a regular member of the team, managing 94 appearances in three seasons.

The Toffees are already close to signing James Tarkowski on a free transfer, and doubts remain whether Frank Lampard would still be willing to add another defender to his ranks.

Yerry Mina is most likely to be allowed to leave the club this season. He is arguably the club’s best defender when he is fit, but there lies the big problem, he’s too injury prone.

Michael Keane could be given another chance after his impressive performances towards the end of last season.

With Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate still around, Everton probably don’t need another defender by spending another over £12m. The money could be used elsewhere.

He would be a very good addition, no doubt, but not needed unless the club ship out one or two more defenders.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has said the Blues should complete their first signing by the end of this week.
