Everton tried to replace Frank Lampard with Manuel Pellegrini in May

Everton tried to replace Frank Lampard with Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini back in May, according to a report by La Tercera on 15 June.

The former Chelsea boss took over from another household Premier League name, Rafa Benitez, in January amid the Blues’ relegation crisis.

Leaving it until the penultimate game of the 2021/22 campaign left some Evertonians jittery but he managed to successfully avoid relegation, nonetheless.

Lampard seemingly didn’t convince Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri that he had what it takes with a report emerging that he tried to replace the 43-year-old barely five months into his Goodison Park reign.

Everton are said to have offered the La Liga outfit £3.4million of Pellegrini’s £4.7million release clause for his services.

However, the Spanish club responded by handing the former Manchester City boss a 20% pay rise.

Disgrace.

Imagine if this deal would have gone through and Moshiri had made yet another disgraceful blunder in charge of the Merseyside outfit.

Honestly, the man has absolutely zero patience and it is beyond a joke. How can you employ Lampard to get you out of a hole and then nearly sack him halfway through the job? It doesn’t make sense.

If the Blues chief doesn’t understand that this is the exact reason why the Goodison Park outfit are in this mess then he never will.

Whatever manager, whatever club, the process takes time. Take a look across the pond at Liverpool for example. Jurgen Klopp was worse than Brendan Rodgers when he took charge and now look at how well he is doing.

That isn’t a comparison many Blues will appreciate but it is the stone-cold truth. Moshiri is a clown and the sooner he leaves this club the better.
