Farhad Moshiri Everton exit mooted as ‘the signs have been there’ – Liverpool Echo journalist

Liverpool Echo podcaster and Everton statistician Gary Buckland believes Farhad Moshiri has been gearing up to leave Goodison Park suggesting “the signs have been there”.

It had been revealed by The Telegraph on Tuesday 14 June, that a consortium led by former Chelsea and Manchester United CEO Peter Kenyon have secured an exclusivity agreement for talks aimed at buying the club.

Buckland believes that current owner Moshiri was preparing for a situation like this to arise.

Talking on the Royal Blue Podcast on Wednesday 15 June [quoted by the Liverpool Echo] Buckland said: “He’s probably thinking ‘we may improve the team but there’s a possibility that it [relegation fight] might happen again next season so I want to avoid that and preserve as much of my investment as possible’.

“I think in the chain of events, that the relegation fight was in there as well in terms of his thinking because I think it spooked him.”

Buckland added: “The signs have been there in terms of the lack of communication, his lack of attendance at Goodison and we know that he’s had other, bigger things to think of so maybe having issued his note apologising he wants to leave it at that?

“These things can take time though so maybe we’ll be back here again at the start of next season for all we know you can see little signs over the last six months.”

Fresh start

Moshiri’s departure would align nicely with the sweeping changes that need to happen at Everton from top to bottom.

Kevin Thelwell and Frank Lampard have hardly had a dull moment since taking up their roles at the club and the news of the Toffees’ potential takeover will potentially add more confusion to Everton’s already busy summer.

No matter what occurs regarding the ownership on Merseyside, there simply has to be a rethink in terms of recruitment this summer to prevent last season’s nightmare from repeating itself.

The Toffees are yet to kickstart their transfer business with very little to come out of Goodison Park thus far.

Moshiri’s apology letter to the Goodison Park faithful is, at present, the only news to emerge from the Toffees.

Kenyon’s bid to take over at Everton is a long, long way from being completed with question marks over the funding for their new Bramley Moore Dock Stadium.

One thing is for certain, regardless of the lack of transfer business at Everton at present, there is never a dull day on the blue side of Merseyside.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has said the Blues should complete their first signing by the end of this week.
