Everton move for Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury does not make sense

Everton are interested in making a move for Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury but it is not a transfer they should be pursuing.

According to The Mirror the Toffees are expected to face competition from Nottingham Forest for the signing of the 24-year-old.

Frank Lampard is keen on making changes to his midfield options and the addition of Choudhury could be one of the steps of his midfield revamp.

Everton

The defensive midfielder has only one year left on his contract and the Foxes want to get a reasonable fee for their player rather than losing him for free next summer.

But he is not ready for first team action on Merseyside.

Choudhury is one of those players who is a fan favourite at the King Power Stadium. Despite struggling for games, his personality and presence won him many fans across the Premier League.

Unfortunately, the England U21 international has been neglected for most of the last season by manager Brendan Rodgers.

Choudhury only managed 12 appearances across all competitions in the previous campaign, six of which came in the Premier League [Transfermarkt].

Everton

As well as being a defensive midfielder, Rodgers has also deployed the 24-year-old as a makeshift central defender.

He was one of the important players of the Leicester side that won the FA Cup in 2021 and looked destined to make the one of the central midfield positions his own at the King Power Stadium, but things haven’t gone to plan.

Midfield is a massive priority for Frank Lampard this season. However, he needs first-teamers that can improve the quality of his side instantly.

Choudhury hasn’t done enough in recent seasons to suggest that he is ready for more first-team action with the Toffees.

Therefore, the former Chelsea manager shouldn’t run the risk of signing a bench player and should consider alternatives.

In other Everton news, the club are now searching for a new Loans Pathway Manager and have set a deadline for 1 July.
