Everton must reignite interest in Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Everton are in the process of rebuilding their squad after a disappointing campaign where they narrowly managed to escape relegation.

One of the players they should turn their attention to is Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who could leave the club in the current transfer window, after being linked with a move away since 23 April when The Express tipped him to sign for Newcastle.

Everton wanted to bring the 26-year-old to Goodison Park in 2020 before Tottenham ended up winning the race for the Danish international.

With Spurs signing Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion, it is more likely that the London-based club would be open to selling the former Southampton man.

Hojbjerg has been one of the more consistent players for Tottenham since he moved to North London in 2020. He was an important player in the Spurs side that reached the League Cup final in 2021.

“He is very intelligent. He is going to be a coach one day for sure. He is a pain in the ear, always asking things about things that we do,” said Jose Mourinho on Hojbjerg after Tottenham’s win over Arsenal in the 2020-21 Premier League.

The biggest thing about the Danish midfielder is simplicity. He is extremely simple with all the things that he does on the pitch and doesn’t complicate passes in the midfield.

If Lampard wants to bring Everton back to the top half of the table, he must have players like Hojbjerg in the team who will be perfect for his counter-attacking model providing a safety blanket for his attackers to capitalize.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has said the Blues should complete their first signing by the end of this week.
