Signing Matheus Nunes will bring solidity to Everton midfield
Everton have been linked with a move for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes in the ongoing transfer window, according to O Jogo’s print edition of June 16.
The Merseyside club are in the market to sign a player to bolster their midfield after narrowly escaping relegation last season.
It is believed that current owner Farhad Moshiri is reportedly keen on improving the state of the squad and bringing the Toffees back into the top half of the Premier League table.

On the other hand, any deal to sign the 23-year-old will not going to be a cheap one as he still has a contract with the club till the summer of 2026.

Considering the evolution of Nunes’ football career in the last 12 months, whoever gets the deal done has the potential to get the signing of the season.
The midfielder played 33 games for Sporting CP in the 2021-22 Portuguese League, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He played 84% of the overall minutes for the club in the League [Transfermarkt].
The Brazil international likes to play as a central midfielder. However, he has the tendency to operate both as a defensive and a box-to-box midfielder if the team requires him to be.

The versatility in midfield will be crucial to Everton’s Premier League chances next season. Unlike last season, they cannot afford to have an open midfield and allow opponents to walk through them with ease.
Despite saving the Toffees from relegation, Frank Lampard has several question marks on his credentials. However, a signing like this may erase some of the doubts and will make his job a little easier as well.
In other Everton news, a Sky Sports journalist has said the Blues should complete their first signing by the end of this week.
