Everton forward Richarlison now number one target for Tottenham – David Ornstein

Tottenham have made Everton forward Richarlison their “first-choice target” for the summer transfer window, according to David Ornstein.

The Brazilian is expected to leave Goodison Park this summer after four seasons with the Toffees, with several of Europe’s top clubs showing an interest.

Now according to The Athletic [June 25], it’s the north London club that have taken strides towards a deal after making him their first-choice target while other rival clubs are prioritising different deals.

Arsenal are expected to make big moves for Leeds winger Raphinha, while Chelsea are instead prioritising a move for Manchester City wide man Raheem Sterling who is entering the final 12 months of his contract with the champions.

There has previously been talk of interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid too [90min, June 11], but they haven’t made their interest concrete.

Major

There is plenty of interest and it’s accepted among most that at this point the Brazilian will leave the club this summer.

The fee is seemingly up in the air, with some reports suggesting that £50m will be enough, while some say Everton will be demanding in excess of £70m.

But after the performances that the player has put in during his time at the club, he’s earned himself a big move away to a club competing at the highest level.

With the World Cup coming up later this year too, playing regularly at a good level will increase his chances of earning a place in the Brazil squad which would be a dream come true.

It’s a major blow for Everton, undoubtedly, but sometimes an exit is the best decision for all parties and so long as the club are well equipped for his exit by getting deals done to replace him then it can end well.
