Tottenham offer Everton Steven Bergwijn + £20m for Richarlison

Everton have rejected an offer of £20m and Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham for forward Richarlison, according to The Telegraph.

The north London club are very interested in signing the Brazilian this summer, making him their number one target for the window according to The Athletic [June 25].

Now they’ve made an initial bid for the 25-year-old that would see Dutch winger Bergwijn move to Goodison Park, but the Toffees immediately rejected the offer according to a fresh report [June 28].

Spurs would also have been willing to include Harry Winks or Lucas Moura in the deal, while they were also interested in taking Anthony Gordon and Ben Godfrey the other way too.

But their attentions are now firmly set on just Richarlison, who the Toffees are likely to sell in order to help ease their financial burdens after being forced to cut ties with Alisher Usmanov earlier this year.

No chance

£20m and a player that is seen as unwanted and deadwood is not a good deal for anyone but Tottenham, and Everton would have been stupid to accept it.

Richarlison is without doubt the club’s most important player and biggest asset, so losing him at all will be hard enough this summer.

Despite that though, there is an acceptance he will leave although the club are going to try and milk every last penny from the deal – and rightly so.

Bergwijn would be a fine replacement, showing he is capable of performing at the highest level, but the balance of just £20m on top is rather insulting and they should be looking to double that at the very least.

If he’s going to go, then it has to be on our terms and not Spurs’ or any other team’s terms. Otherwise we may as well just give up now and let him go for peanuts.
