Sky pundit not worried by Everton delay in James Tarkowski announcement as new photo emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
There is nothing in the delay to Everton announcing the signing of new defender James Tarkowski, according to Kevin Campbell.
A deal to bring in the former Burnley defender on a free transfer was wrapped up some time ago, and there was a suggestion in the Liverpool Echo that the Toffees were deliberately avoiding an announcement until his Clarets contract had officially expired due to the threat of legal action from the Turf Moor club over the club’s finances.
But as a new photo emerged on social media appearing to depict the 29-year-old in his new Everton kit Sky Sports pundit Campbell dismissed the possibility that there was anything to read into regarding the lack of publicity so far on the primary piece of incoming summer business.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “I think too much is being read into it, you’ve heard them [Everton] already come out and say it’s entirely the choice of Burnley and everyone who wants to ask the questions, it’s their right.
“They’ve done everything by the book, so I don’t think it’s [the delay is because of] worrying about that.
“Usually the contract finishes on June 30th, so from the 1st July is when the new contracts start.
“New year of contracts so [they’re] probably just doing it through protocol.”

The situation should be clear imminently since the end of June has now passed, and with it came a report in the Daily Mail that both Burnley and Leeds had decided to drop their complaint.
With the sale of Richarlison also pushed through before the month ended the club look to have cleared another hurdle in their fight to avoid financial sanctions.
And in light of the departure of such a key player the fanbase could use some positive news as soon as possible in the form of a Tarkowski unveiling.
It would have been expected on Friday (1 July) although nothing came, but for now there appears to be no cause for concern and he surely will be plastered over the club’s social media any time now.
