Everton move for Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks can still happen – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

There is no reason why Everton cannot succeed in completing a move for Harry Winks this summer according to Kevin Campbell.

The Tottenham midfielder’s name was attached to the now-completed exit of Richarlison to North London for some time, although the move eventually ended as a cash only deal amid financial difficulties at Goodison Park.

But with the ex-England international still believed to be on Frank Lampard’s list of targets to strengthen his midfield, Sky Sports pundit Campbell thinks the coast is clear for the Toffees to make a run at him if they want him, with neither the Brazilian’s move or the price barriers to a deal.

On whether a Winks move was entirely dependent on the Richarlison deal Campbell exclusively told Goodison News: “I don’t think so.

“Obviously because they’re both [involving] the same club, maybe it’s easy to tie the two, but I don’t particularly think that’s a factor.

“If Everton want Winks I don’t think that’s a problem. I think if they want him then they can go and get him.

“I mean it’s not crazy money is it? 15-20 million, so I don’t see [the finances] being that tight.”

With there thought to be interest on all sides of this deal for a move to be made it seems highly possible that the 26-year-old arrives at Goodison before the end of the window.

Negotiations between the two clubs have been complicated, and Spurs’ continued interest in Anthony Gordon will only increase that, but as the season approaches it isn’t in anyone’s interest that Winks be destined for months on the bench.

A loan-to-buy surely has legs even if Daniel Levy wants a straight sale, but with the 30 June deadline passed and some money brought in there is scope for a fee, although the future of Dele Alli and any payment attached to that may be a factor.
