Everton agree terms with Maxwel Cornet, offering fee including add-ons to Burnley

Everton have agreed personal terms with Maxwel Cornet ahead of a move to Goodison Park, but they’re yet to agree a fee with Burnley according to Fraser Fletcher.

The Toffees are keen to wrap up the signing of the Ivory Coast international and are set to pay his £17.5m release clause [Foot Mercato, July 15] following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship last season.

But while the package of that deal is still being negotiated, it’s now reported by former BBC journalist Fletcher that terms have been agreed with the player ahead of a deal.

Writing on his personal Twitter account he said, “Everton offer for Cornet likely to be made up of upfront then add ons upto the release clause. Terms agreed with player, clubs negotiating package. If agreed then medicals and final paperworks.”

Swift business

Cornet is a super talented winger and showed last season with Burnley that he’s capable of being very effective, even in a team that is massively underperforming.

He scored nine goals and registered two assists in all competitions last season as they were relegated from the Premier League, almost identical numbers to that of Richarlison without penalties who we just sold for £60m.

At 25-years-old Cornet can come into the side and immediately take up that spot on the left-wing, without taking out a huge chunk of the budget for the window or being on extortionate wages.

It would prove to be a swift bit of business, similar to the deal that saw the club snap up Cornet’s former teammate James Tarkowski on a free transfer earlier in the window.

Fans can be excited by this deal and know that they haven’t been taken to the cleaners, while still being able to upgrade the squad and bring in a solid replacement for a key man. Everyone is happy.
