Dele Alli ‘extraordinary’ miss shows why Everton must sign Armando Broja
Everton lost 4-0 against Minnesota United in the pre-season clash on Thursday (21 July) morning in the final game of their US Tour.
The same familiar problems emerged as the Toffees looked fragile at the back, and toothless up front.
Pre-season friendlies are not the best indicator to judge the preparation of a club, but one cannot help but wonder how badly Frank Lampard needs to reinvest into the side.

During the game, there was an awful miss from Dele Alli who skewed his shot wide from a yard out in front of an open goal. Liverpool Echo (21 July) on their live blog described it as an “extraordinary” miss.
If this is not a clear indication that Lampard needs to sign a striker ASAP, and clearly, there is something fundamentally wrong with the transfer policy.
And that is why the Toffees must move heaven and earth to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea this summer.
West Ham and Newcastle are also interested in signing the 20-year-old, but CBS journalist Ben Jacobs reported that the Toffees are also keen to land him.
We understand that it’s not easy to get a deal done immediately, but constant dithering without making any progress and then missing out on the transfer target is the worst possible scenario.

Everton are well aware that they have financial problems and the club may have to wheel and deal to get the right players. Chelsea want to sell the striker on loan, while other clubs are keen to do a permanent deal.
Ideally, Lampard would love to sign Broja permanently, but in a situation like this, even a deal to bring him on loan would appeal to Chelsea. It would solve Everton’s immediate problems.
Broja is a natural finisher and he would be a superb option upfront alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Everton are crying out for fresh ideas, and fresh energy upfront, and Alli’s miss is a stark reminder to Lampard that he must do everything to beat other rivals and bring Broja to Goodison Park.
