Everton set for meeting today to discuss Guido Rodriguez transfer, answer in ‘next few hours’

Everton are expected to have a meeting today to discuss the transfer of Guido Rodriguez, with Betis expecting information in the “next few hours”, say Estadio Deportivo.

The Toffees are looking to bolster their midfield and reports on Monday [July 25] claimed that they had already approached the 28-year-old about a potential move to the Premier League.

Betis are open to a sale, and a report by local media claims a deal is moving in the right direction with the La Liga club already eyeing possible replacements.

After an initial enquiry, they say that Everton’s board will meet today [Tuesday], then strategise and it’s expected that they will get back in contact with Betis in the next few hours to inform them of their intentions.

A fee of around €40m (£33.8m) is mentioned as an initial price, but Rodriguez joined Betis in January 2020 for just £2.7m. He played 45 times for the club last season.

Progress

It seems as though this transfer is moving in the right direction and Everton could actually be doing something quite smart here.

Rodriguez has been a shrewd signing for Betis over the last 18 months and has become one of the better performing defensive midfielders in La Liga over that time.

He’s got over 20 caps for the Argentina national team and will likely be part of their World Cup squad this year, showing the level of talent he has.

Considering the price Betis signed him for not long ago, Everton should be able to strike a good deal for the midfielder that would please everyone and he would slot right into the heart of the team where they’re currently weakest.

It’s certainly a deal to keep an eye on that is being covered well in Spain, and Betis are open to doing business so hopefully it won’t drag on for too long either.
