Sunderland could field Everton striker duo as talks continue

Everton may be about to send not one but two strikers to Wearside with Sunderland in the market for a new talisman, according to i News.

Welshman Nathan Broadhead spent the 2021-22 campaign at the Stadium of Light where he scored 13 goals in 27 games and the Black Cats are keen to bring him back to the North East on a permanent basis.

The Toffees want to cash in on him too with his contract due to expire soon but they may also allow Ellis Simms to join the 24-year-old at Sunderland.

Everton

The England Under-20 international has rejected a loan return to Blackpool and is now on the verge of a move to the newly-promoted Championship outfit.

The 21-year-old’s 2021-22 season comprised of a brief spell at Hearts in Scotland where he impressed with key goals to help the Jam Tarts to the Scottish Cup final.

Dynamic duo

Alex Neil must love a two-up-top formation to be trying to sign both Broadhead and Simms when he already has Ross Stewart – a.k.a the Loch Ness Drogba – at the club.

But for Everton, this is a wonderful bit of business if it comes off because they would finally get the Welshman off the wage bill having failed to live up to expectations and Simms would have a familiar face to settle with for his temporary stay on Wearside.

There is far more hype and expectation now surrounding the 21-year-old that a good season in the second tier may be enough to see him propelled into the Toffees’ first team for the 2023-24 season.

All he has to hope now is that Frank Lampard’s squad will be good enough to stay away from relegation that very nearly caught them out last time around so he can strut his stuff in the Premier League.
