Everton hit by injury crisis ahead of new Premier League season

Everton have been hit by numerous injury blows ahead of the start of the new Premier League season, according to Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas.

The Toffees secured a thumping 3-0 win against Dynamo Kyiv in a friendly at Goodison Park on Friday evening [29 July].

Thomas, in a tweet after the match, revealed that midfielders Tom Davies, Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina missed the fixtures due to injuries, while Allan was held back on the bench.

He also stated the club remains optimistic that the former Barcelona defender will start training in the midweek while the former Napoli midfielder remained on the bench as he continues his recovery. However, there was no update regarding Davies or Gomes.

Frustrating times

There is a genuine feeling of frustration at Goodison Park and rightly so. The Merseyside club, after narrowly escaping relegation, have already lost their star player in Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur and have only managed to sign three players — centre-back James Tarkowski, winger Dwight McNeil and left-back Rúben Vinagre — with just a month left in the transfer window.

Out of those three, it can be easily concluded that only Tarkowski, who arrived as a free agent once his contract came to an end with Burnley, is an upgrade on whatever options there are in that position at the club.

That situation will not please the manager as well as the fans who would be hoping for a much better season this time around.

But as things stand, if there are no major incomings before the end of the transfer window, the Blues might will be involved in another relegation battle and with someone like Richarlison not around anymore, their journey in top-flight football might be in serious danger.
