Amadou Onana medical at Everton on Sunday morning – Fabrizio Romano

Lille midfielder Amadou Onana will undergo a medical with Everton on Sunday morning, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Writing for CaughtOffside, the Guardian journalist reported on Sunday (7 August) that a “full agreement has been reached with Lille” for the signing of the 20-year-old Belgium international.

It is understood that the Blues have agreed to pay an initial fee worth £30.3million plus an extra £3.3million in add-ons.

All but done

Onana was spotted at Goodison Park on Saturday evening (7 August) as Everton lost 1-0 to Chelsea.

He’s set to become Everton’s biggest signing of the summer and potentially the most expensive addition for a while due to the Financial Fair Play issues plaguing Goodison Park right now.

It’ll be a massive shock if this deal doesn’t get done now but it’ll just be Everton’s luck if something crops up in the medical so we pray that’s not the case.

Onana is a massive addition to our midfield.

Frank Lampard had to start with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Alex Iwobi in the central spots against Chelsea.

Doucoure is a proven Premier League player who we know can play very well but we haven’t seen enough from him in his time at Goodison Park.

Iwobi impressed when he was shifted into the middle of the park by Lampard last season but ultimately, we can do a lot better than him in that area of the pitch.

Onana could be an upgrade on every central and defensive-minded midfielder we’ve got so this signing is a very big one for the Toffees.

Let’s hope we’re not finished there though and we can continue to sign top-quality players.

We just doubt that there’s much left in terms of FFP leeway once this expensive signing is completed.
