Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell wants Viktor Gyokeres and he’s not expensive
Everton would only have to pay around £10million to sign striker target Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry, according to The Express.
The Toffees are after the Swedish international to solve their mounting issues up front, after he scored 17 times in the Championship last season.
Only goal-shy Salomon Rondon is fit at centre-forward for Frank Lampard and the club need to add someone before the end of the window or risk being left short.
Express reporter Ryan Taylor wrote on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday morning (10 August): “Everton are interested in Coventry City frontman Viktor Gyokeres, who struck 17 goals in Championship last season.
“Swedish international centre-forward is among names being tracked by Kevin Thelwell in his quest to land Frank Lampard a new striker.”
On the transfer live-blog on the Express website it adds the forward has “caught the eye” of the Toffees director of football and that he is “valued at around £10m by the Sky Blues”.
Likely?
He’s not the big-name arrival that is going to get fans excited in the way Amadou Onana is in midfield, but Lampard needs somebody fast and this feels like it might be coming together.
Thelwell is the key figure in the transfer window at Goodison and if he is sold on the Championship goalscorer that makes it more possible, rather than the manager pushing for a target that could be turned down, although there hasn’t been a bid yet.
Those who can register a strong tally in the second tier can at times cost a big fee, but £10million is relatively low for a striker.

The structure of deals have been important for Everton this summer so if Coventry were willing to part with their main man up top and accept a staggered payment structure it would be easy to see this move happening.
The 24-year-old has already scored in his first league game this season, and has two international strikes in his seven caps, so it looks like there is something Lampard could work with.
But he is a far cry from who he would be essentially replacing in Brazilian star Richarlison, so while it is something that a deal might be on the cards for a forward it can’t be seen as anything other than a downgrade at this stage if it does happen.
