Sky Sports man delivers update on Everton signing Idriss Gueye amid fears of u-turn

Idrissa Gueye’s move to Everton is still on despite delays in the transfer being completing, according to Sky Sports’ Alan Myers.

Footmercato editor-in-chief Sebastien Denis reported on Tuesday (9 August) that the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder was now “reluctant” to return to Goodison Park.

The Senegal international has been close to re-signing for his former club, having become surplus to requirements at the Parc des Princes, since the Toffees were offered the chance to bring him back a fortnight ago (27 July).

But according to Myers there are no concerns on his end.

In response to a question from a fan on his personal Twitter account about whether the deal was still going ahead he wrote: “Haven’t heard anything to the contrary”.

Encouraging

That is a positive bit of news but doesn’t ensure that the deal is definitely going to be done, although with the amount of scrutiny on the club at the moment it would be a surprise if a potential collapse hadn’t come out more widely by now.

At the same time it is taking a surprisingly long time to get this move over the line, especially when Everton motored through the negotiations and the admin to bring in both Dwight McNeil and Conor Coady.

Even the shock signing of Belgian sensation Amadou Onana arose and has been completed in the mean time, while the Gueye deal lingers on.

Everton

The youngster coming in arguably makes the potential of missing out on the experienced 32-year-old less of a blow, but it has been tipped as a smart move to pair the two in order to aid Onana’s development.

Fans could be excused for getting a bit edgy, and they would certainly like to see a striker arrive from somewhere as that position is currently a big issue.

Things are getting done in a strange order in the later weeks of the transfer window, but as long as it does get finished in time it will be a positive summer all in all.

Defence has been helped, midfield is half-way there, but attack looks like it needs attention fast.
