Sky Sports man shares update on Everton hunt for Coventry’s Viktor Gyokeres
Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres is a target for Everton as they seek to address their huge need at striker, Alan Myers has confirmed.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin still out for a number of weeks, and all the other options at the club aside from Salomon Rondon leaving permanently or on loan this summer there is somewhat of a crisis in attack for Frank Lampard.
The Venezuelan was suspended as well for the defeat to Chelsea and the Toffees lacked a cutting edge up top, but as yet there has been no bid made for the Sweden international to solve the issue.
Writing on his Twitter account on Tuesday evening (9 August), Sky Sports’ Myers said: “Viktor Gyökeres is one of a number of names on Everton’s list as they look to strengthen the attacking options, however no bid has been made for the Coventry striker.”
The 24-year-old struck 17 times in the Championship last season and has one in one so far in the new campaign.
Pressing
Attacking help is needed as a matter of urgency since Calvert-Lewin’s horrible luck continues to plague him so it is asking for trouble to simply rely on his return.
Rondon at least would give the team a focal point, but he has not proven himself to be a capable goalscorer at Goodison, with just three goals for the club, and two of them coming against lower-league opposition in the FA Cup.
Lampard has been after Chelsea’s Armando Broja for most of the summer, but so have plenty of other managers and his position at Stamford Bridge appears to still be unclear.

Gyokeres is a full international for Sweden and has shown he can hit the back of the net in the second tier, but it is perhaps slightly underwhelming that he is now a serious target for the club.
It is certainly a step down in terms of draw on name alone compared to the relatively high profile goings on in the Everton business of late.
But the club need somebody so if he is available for a reasonable price, and higher profile options are out of reach, there are plenty of players who show they can make the step up.
Proven Championship goal-scorers don’t come cheap these days though, with Ollie Watkins costing Aston Villa up to £33million two years ago after a prolific season for Brentford.
