Everton close in on signing Rennes striker Serhou Guirassy, could be done by end of the week – L’Equipe

Everton are closing in on the signing of Rennes striker Serhou Guirassy and could get the deal done before the end of the week, according to L’Equipe.

The French newspaper reported via their website on Thursday night (11 August) that Rennes have completed the signing of Arnaut Kalimuendo from Paris Saint-Germain to bolster their striker options for the 2022/23 season.

It is understood that Kalimuendo’s move to Rennes could grease the wheels on a deal for the Blues to welcome Guirassy, 26, to Goodison Park.

L’Equipe claims that Guirassy is “getting closer to Everton” after he was made a priority signing by the Premier League club.

Strasbourg have reportedly been interested in the Guinea international too but the forward “wishes to join the Merseyside club”.

Decent addition

Kalimuendo’s move to Rennes has come at a very good time for Everton.

Frank Lampard is in desperate need of a new striker because Dominic Calvert-Lewin is yet again injured and Salomon Rondon is absolutely hopeless and nowhere near good enough for a club in the Premier League.

Calvet-Lewin is set to miss a few weeks so we need someone to come in as soon as possible.

Everton

While it might be unlikely that Rennes number nine Guirassy will join Everton before the registration period for this weekend closes on Friday (12 August), it does seem as though he could be in through the doors at Finch Farm in the coming days ahead of potentially making a debut next week.

That means that Guirassy – if all goes well and he does join Everton – could make his first appearance for the Blues at Goodison Park against Nottingham Forest on 20 August.

Let’s hope that is the case because we cannot bare the thought of watching Rondon fail to hit a barn door with a banjo against a newly-promoted club who we should be whipping.
