Everton perfect for Billy Gilmour to rejuvenate career – Andy Halliday

Hearts midfielder Andy Halliday believes that moving to Everton will prove to be a correct decision for Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour.

The Scotland international’s future remains in doubt at Stamford Bridge as he has been linked with a move away from the club with a number of Premier League sides showing interest including the Toffees [90min].

Halliday, while talking to Grosvenor Sport as quoted by Football Scotland, suggested that the 21-year-old moving to Goodison Park will be ideal to put his career back on track.

Everton

“Everton is the exact move that Billy Gilmour needs to make to get his career back on track,” he said. “Frank Lampard gave him his debut at Chelsea and has a lot of trust in him whilst also knowing the ability he has.

“We’ve seen players have bad loan spells before and still come back and play really well. There’s no doubt in Billy’s quality and I think there’s no better loan move to make than reuniting with Lampard at Everton.”

Impressive

Everton came into the transfer market looking to add players in a number of positions and so far, they’ve managed to sign five players.

However, only one of those players is for the middle of the park — Amadou Onana — who is a defensive midfielder.

Therefore, it is clear that Lampard is in need of players who can play in a box-to-box role and Gilmour seems to be an ideal fit for the role.

While he can play in both defensive midfield and central midfield roles, it is his work rate and eye for a pass that makes him special and an ideal player for the Everton manager to have in the middle of the park.

Gilmour spent last season on loan with Norwich where he was impressive, to say the least. In a season where the club suffered relegation, the 21-year-old played 28 matches across all competitions where he managed to provide a couple of assists [Transfermarkt].
