Everton may be offered chance to sign Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins – Dean Jones

Everton may be offered a chance to sign Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins in the coming weeks, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees are in the market to sign a striker to replace Richarlison who has left the club and joined Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the summer.

It was reported by Football Insider on August 10 that the 26-year-old might leave the club after a reported bust-up with manager Steven Gerrard.

Now, Jones has suggested that the Merseyside club might get a chance to sign the striker in the coming week.

“What would happen in a situation like this is, typically, intermediaries start targeting obvious clubs when a player is made to feel like they don’t have much of a future,” he said while talking to Give Me Sport.

“So, if that is the case with Watkins, like it’s been reported, then I would expect Leeds, Crystal Palace, Everton also be offered his services in the next week or so just to gauge how much interest there is out there.”

Everton came into the transfer window hoping to add firepower in the final third.

That hope must’ve been intensified even further as the club’s leading goal scorer from the last season Richarlison has left the club and other star forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been ruled out for the first six weeks of the season due to an injury.

Therefore, if they get a chance to sign someone like Watkins for whatever reason there is, manager Frank Lampard must ensure that they get this deal over the line as soon as possible because the 26-year-old has proved his class in the Premier League for Villa and will be an outstanding signing for the club.

The England international has been a Villa player since moving there from Brentford in a deal worth £30.6million in the summer of 2020.

Since then, the 26-year-old has played 77 matches across all competitions for the Villans where he has managed to score 27 times and provided seven assists [Transfermarkt].
