Everton hope to progress with deal this week to sign Idrissa Gueye

Everton hope to secure a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye this week, as per Paul Joyce.

While writing in The Times, the journalist reported on 16 August that the Toffees are hoping to progress with a deal this week to bring back Gueye on a nominal fee.

The Toffees have been linked with a move for Gueye for a while, and at one point it seemed like the deal could be off. However, it seems Everton haven’t given up on him, and the deal could be done.

Get it done

The 32-year-old midfielder left Goodison Park three years ago to join Paris Saint-Germain and did well in France.

It looked like he has finished the first part of his medical on 8 August [Fraser Fletcher], but then talks between Everton and the French champions had reached an impasse.

The Toffees have made some brilliant signings so far, but they are not done yet. The club have added depth in midfield by signing Amadou Onana, who was brilliant in the last game.

However, with Abdoulaye Doucoure picking up an injury, Frank Lampard has decided to pay a nominal fee to bring back Gueye.

The Ivorian midfielder is not the same player anymore he once was, but he will still be a very effective signing for the club. He will add solidity in defensive midfield, allowing the likes of Onana, Tom Davies, Dwight McNeil and Doucoure to flourish.

Let’s hope the Toffees can finally reach an agreement with PSG, and secure his signature in the next few days.
