Serhou Guirassy trains alone as Everton table bid to sign Rennes forward

Everton-linked striker Serhou Guirassy is training alone at Rennes, manager Bruno Genesio has confirmed.

The Daily Mail reported on Sunday (14 August) that the Blues have tabled a bid to sign the 26-year-old Guinea international with Frank Lampard in the hunt for a new striker.

As quoted by the Mirror on their live transfer blog on Friday (19 August, 04:01pm), Genesio said that amid the speculation linking Guirassy with a move, the striker has been separated from the rest of the Rennes squad.

“In his situation, it’s better that we train him individually, he’s had a great attitude since I’ve been here,” said Genesio.

“Whatever his situation, he has always left his feelings aside from the training camp. After that, top-level football is like that and I hope we can find a solution for him, so that he can develop more than he has here.”

Left out

Guirassy’s days at Rennes do seem to be numbered.

Not only is he training alone at the Ligue 1 club, he was also left out of the starting line-up for their season opener against Lorient and wasn’t in the squad at all last week as they drew 1-1 with Monaco.

Last season, Guirassy was a key player for Rennes.

The former Koln and Lille striker scored 12 times in 48 appearances across all competitions and also supplied three assists.

He helped Rennes reach the last-16 of the inaugural Europa Conference League, assisting a goal against Leicester while playing on the left-wing in a 2-1 win.

Everton

Guirassy isn’t someone who blows us away, in all honesty.

However, beggars cannot be choosers at this point of the transfer window – especially when you’re in the Financial Fair Play predicament the Toffees are in.

Frank Lampard needs one or two new forwards adding to his squad and while Guirassy might be able to do a job at Goodison Park as a back-up option.
