Everton must make £80m in sales before they can sign more players
Everton are in need of selling some players before they can afford to reinvest in the playing squad, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
The Toffees are still hoping to sign former Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj if they end up selling academy graduate Anthony Gordon but the club are adamant they don’t want to sell the 21-year-old amid interest from Chelsea.
But even though there is a desperate need for new players at Goodison Park, Farhad Moshiri and Kevin Thelwell can’t go into the transfer market and make the necessary improvements.
In fact, Tavolieri has indicated that Everton need to sell £80million worth of players before they can make any further moves in the transfer market before the 1 September deadline strikes.
“No ‘fresh’ transfer news but Everton needs to sell and bring £80M into the coffers to consider moving concretely on the transfer window. Januzaj is still on the shortlist if Gordon leaves,” Tavolieri said.
Nightmare
This is the last thing Lampard wants to be hearing after picking up just one point in the first three games of a new season and having loads of gaps in his squad still.
Gordon’s exit, should it come, would be an equally big blow to the club knowing that they can’t make the big moves they would need to in order to sufficiently replace him.

And they still need to find a new striker with Salomon Rondon leading the line against Nottingham Forest to little effect and Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured.
Failure to make these moves that have been so desperate for some time would likely see Everton back in another relegation fight and with this latest report, the club could be hamstrung to that fate.
It’s going to take the massively loud Goodison Park crowd to roar the players on to keep their heads above water or they will have to prepare for Championship football very soon.
