Everton register interest to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay

Everton have registered their interest in signing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to talkSPORT.

The Scotland international has played in both of the Red Devils’ games this season but both have seen Erik Ten Hag’s side beaten and the new Dutch manager has looked to make improvements as a result.

United confirmed a principle agreement to sign Real Madrid ace Casemiro on Friday (19 August) for £59.4million and the Brazilian’s arrival could open the exit door for McTominay.

The 25-year-old, who has been the brunt of the criticism, is therefore on the radar of Everton who are still hoping to make improvements in the midfield department after the arrival of Amadou Onana, 20.

The Toffees will have to beat off competition from West Ham, Newcastle and Leicester to secure the Scot’s signature although the locality of Goodison Park could prove to be a persuading factor.

Underrated

All of the magnifying glasses at Old Trafford mean that any player who is not a world beater comes under fire from the media and the same has happened to McTominay over the past few years.

But in actual fact, he has been one of United’s more consistent performers and he could be a seriously good purchase from Everton, whether it be permanently or in a loan move.

Despite his combative playing style and the number of fouls he can sometimes commit when trying to nick the ball off the opposition, he doesn’t get booked nearly as much as you might think he should be.

That is usually because he very rarely argues with the referee when he does commit a foul and as much as it might not seem like a factor in the official’s decision-making, it most certainly is.

That quality is something that needs to be instilled into Frank Lampard’s squad if at all possible because in those games where cards are flying about all over the place, calm heads are crucial.
