Everton transfer news: Dele Alli exit could be complete by Thursday with £7m fee on the cards

Besiktas hope to complete the signing of Dele Alli from Everton by Thursday, according to The Times.

The newspaper reported via their website on Tuesday (23 August) that Alli, 26, “could be the next player to leave Goodison Park” this summer.

At the time of reporting, it was said that Besiktas hope to seal a deal for Alli in the next 48 hours, which would be around lunchtime on Thursday (25 August).

The Times adds that the deal would be an initial loan with the view to it being made permanent for £7million.

Alli joined Everton on a free transfer from Tottenham in January.

Failure

We cannot blame Frank Lampard for signing Alli.

When he signed the former MK Dons midfielder in the January transfer window, he was able to do it on a free transfer that would only cost anything if he hit a certain number of appearances.

If the Blues were scared of that appearance-related clause being triggered and were limiting his game-time as a result of their Financial Fair Play regulations in the hope of making a profit on him, we’ll never know.

But ultimately, Alli’s fall from grace is down to himself.

He’s had opportunities at two big clubs in England, as well as the national team.

He’s played for top managers across those clubs and his national side but he’s regressed massively in the last few years, which is surely down to himself.

Everton have lost money on Alli’s wages but selling him for a profit isn’t bad business at the end of the day and could help us with FPP in the future.
