Miguel Almiron unlikely to leave Newcastle United this summer amid Everton interest

Everton are unlikely to sign Newcastle United forward Miguel Almiron this summer, according to reliable Paraguyan journalist Roberto Rojas.

The Toffees were linked with a move for the 28-year-old, with The Guardian reporting that the Magpies would only entertain a permanent exit in this window.

But Rojas, who is well connected to Almiron, says that while Everton’s interest in the player has been known for “various months”, his information is that the player is unlikely to leave St James’ Park before the deadline next week.

“The Toffees have shown interest in Miggy for various months but from my end for now, it’s unlikely he will leave [Newcastle] this summer,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

For the best

As much as Everton need attackers in this transfer window, we need to be targeting players that will actually make a difference in our squad and improve us. Almiron doesn’t do that.

He’s vastly experienced with 45 caps for the Paraguay international team and 113 Premier League appearances, but his goal and assist record during that time is poor.

everton

Almiron has scored just ten goals in England’s top flight since joining in January 2019, and while he is a nuisance for defenders with his energy and pace he has struggled to deliver at the highest level.

Everton need someone to come in and chip in with goals and assists to make up for the absence of Richarlison and potentially Anthony Gordon too, and Almiron simply doesn’t do that.

It might be seen as a blow by some that the club look likely to miss out on yet another target in this window, but most fans will probably agree that it’s for the best that this deal doesn’t happen this summer.
