Danny Murphy: Everton should insist on signing ‘terrific’ Armando Broja

With Anthony Gordon’s £60million move to Chelsea looking increasingly likely, Danny Murphy told talkSPORT the Toffees should insist on Armando Broja being included in the deal.

Everton look set to pocket £60million from Chelsea in return for 21-year-old winger Gordon [Sky Sports], but with Frank Lampard’s side struggling in the striking department, could a swap deal be on the table?

After signing for Southampton on loan last season, Broja scored six goals for the Saints in 32 appearances as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side secured 15th in the table.

Broja has since returned to Chelsea, but has played just 16 minutes of football under Thomas Tuchel, leading many to believe he should again be loaned out to boost his game time.

That’s exactly what talkSPORT’s Murphy believes, with the former Premier League midfielder suggesting that Everton should “insist” on Broja being included in the Gordon deal.

“Broja would be part of the deal for me, I would insist on that,” said Murphy.

“I think he’s a terrific talent.”

Making the best of a bad situation

No one wants to see Anthony Gordon leave Goodison Park. He was a crucial part to Everton’s Premier League survival last season and showed character during times where the squad looked deflated.

Full of positivity and direct running, he’ll certainly be a huge miss for Lampard if he does depart for Chelsea this week.

But if the deal is completed, Everton need to move quickly for new signings, and a new striker is top of the priority list.

As gifted as Dominic Calvert-Lewin is, his injury issues render him unreliable, and Salomon Rondon is nowhere near Premier League quality.

Broja was far from a world beater at Southampton last season, but he has a point to prove and has shown his goalscoring potential in the top flight. If Chelsea are willing to let him go, is it worth chipping off some of Gordon’s transfer fee to capture his signature this season?
