Paul Merson predicts Everton defeat v Brentford

Paul Merson has predicted that Everton will suffer another Premier League defeat in the match against Brentford this weekend.

The Toffees are winless after the first three matches with just one point in front of their name which they earned against Nottingham Forest while playing at home.

In a column for Sportkeeda, Merson wrote that Brentford will be careful in the match against Everton after suffering a defeat against Fulham which should see them getting a positive result.

“Everton only did well only after the shackles were off against Aston Villa,” he said. “Towards the end of the game, they were playing good football. In the first 80 minutes of the game, however, they didn’t create any chances.

“I watched Brentford last week and I thought they’d wipe the floor with Fulham. They’d just beaten United, and I thought their approach backfired in the Premier League last week. They’ll be ready for this game, and I think they should be able to defeat Everton.”

Not good

Everton entered the season hoping to improve on the performances of the last campaign where they narrowly managed to avoid relegation.

Following such a horror show, there was a genuine sense of concern about how the team would perform this season, especially when star striker Richarlison left the club and joined league rivals Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the window.

The start of the campaign would not give much hope to the club supporters and as per Merson’s words, things could go from bad to worse this week.

Therefore, manager Frank Lampard must ensure that his players will be able to put their best foot forward in the match against a side who are coming off the back of a defeat against the newly-promoted side.

Looking at the head-to-head between the teams, it does not pain a rosy picture for Everton as in four meetings, they’ve managed to win just once whereas Brentford emerged victorious on three occasions [Transfermarkt].
