Simon Jordan: Conor Gallagher will hate hearing Everton links in Anthony Gordon saga

Simon Jordan has suggested that Conor Gallagher will be hating the transfer links to Everton as the Toffees want to include the England international in a deal for Anthony Gordon.

talkSPORT revealed (via Twitter, 23 August) that Everton want Armando Broja or Gallagher to be included as part of Chelsea’s deal for Gordon.

The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday 23 August, that the West London club are growing increasingly confident of landing Gordon before the transfer window shuts.

However, Jordan believes that Gallagher will hate hearing his name included after being told he is part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans this season.

Talking on talkSPORT on 24 August, Jordan said: “They [Chelsea] are massively overpaying.

“I’d be unhappy because it sends out a signal that the academy is just there for other people to take from it whenever they choose.

“They have to make Chelsea work for it.

“If I was Conor Gallagher I would hate to be hearing this, after coming back to Chelsea to get in the side and then be punted out to Everton.”

A lot of money

Losing an academy prospect is always going to ruffle a few feathers but ultimately if Everton receive a fee that is near £60million for Gordon, then it is superb business.

Academies are designed to be a stream of income for a club and considering that Gordon only really broke onto the scene in the 2021/22 season, Evertonians should be more than happy with the club’s business when it comes to Gordon.

The financial constraints that are present at Goodison Park are there for all to see, and if the club were in a better place off the pitch then Gordon’s future could look very different.

It is crucial that the 21-year-old situation is resolved quickly, with only a matter of days left in the transfer window.

If he does depart, then it is essential that Lampard is allowed the incoming transfer fee to replace Gordon and add a striker to his ranks.

The worst-case scenario would see Gordon leave with only a couple of days remaining.

Lampard cannot be left scrambling for signings come deadline day, with a new striker desperately needed before Everton’s Premier League trip to Brentford on Saturday 27 August.
