Everton in advanced talks to complete signing of Neal Maupay from Brighton – Dharmesh Sheth

Everton are closing in on signing Neal Maupay from Brighton, with the club in “advanced talks” over a deal, Dharmesh Sheth and Alan Myers report.

The Toffees are in desperate need of a striker with Dominic Calvert-Lewin out injured and only Salomon Rondon available up front, and it looks like they are finally getting close on some of their targets.

The French forward has fallen out of favour at the Amex and is in the final year of his contract, but the deal is reportedly still set to cost £15million, although Fulham may still be in the picture.

On his Twitter account on Thursday night (25 August) he wrote: “Everton in advanced talks to sign Brighton striker Neal Maupay as per [Alan Myers] … Fulham had been in talks.

“Fee thought to be in region of £15m. Maupay in final year of his Brighton contract.”

Reinforcements

It’s taken three Premier League matches so far without enough firepower up front, but maybe fans can finally get ready to welcome some help in that department.

If they are really lucky then it seems like it could end up being multiple arrivals, but even one right now would be somewhat of a blessing.

The 26-year-old Maupay has yet to feature for the Seagulls this term but has 26 Premier League goals across the past three seasons.

Everton

That may not be an earth-shattering return but it’s an upgrade on Rondon, and the younger man is a much more mobile option, which is key.

There have been a few chases during this window that have ultimately amounted to nothing, so it looks like Everton are hedging there bets and lining up deals for whichever strikers they can get in their sites lately.

As things get desperate in the final week of the window that is probably sensible, and as long as a couple of the right options end up arriving without spending the earth it should make all the difference to what is currently an incomplete squad.
