Sky Sports pundit still wants Everton to go after Che Adams despite hot form threatening move

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Che Adams’ red-hot run of form shouldn’t change his availability for Everton and he is someone who does what they need, says Kevin Campbell.

Four goals in his last two games could have switched the attitude at St Mary’s to let go of a player they’ve been claiming publicly wasn’t for sale but privately were ready to let go of [The Athletic], and manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has upgraded his tune to back the public stance [talkSPORT].

But Sky Sports pundit Campbell doesn’t think the deal is completely off the table, with the Sky Sports Transfer Show round-up still listing him as a Toffees target Thursday night (25 August), and likes the look of a player who can do many of the things Salomon Rondon can’t that might awaken this Everton side after a sluggish start to the season.

On whether the Adams ship has sailed after his upturn in form he exclusively told Goodison News: “No I don’t think so.

“I think Che Adams coming off the bench and scoring goals, you want him in a good vein of form.

“If Southampton were happy to sell him before I don’t see why they won’t be happy to sell him now.

“I think the key is getting the deal done.

“Is Che Adams a prolific goalscorer? No, I think he scores in bunches.

“But one thing he does do. He’s a handful for defenders, he can hold the ball up, and he can run channels.

“And he will work. So he’s more mobile than a Rondon and that’s going to give you something else.

“With the way Everton play, they are creating chances, they just don’t have anybody in there ruthless enough to take them at the moment.”

Everton

Whether it’s Adams or one of the other names on the club’s list of targets, somebody needs to be brought in within a week or this could be a long season.

For all the good work that has been done in the transfer market defensively, and the capture of Amadou Onana in midfield which could turn out to be transformative in the long run, it will all be undercut if they can’t score enough to win games.

Not replacing Richarlison was a big risk as it was, and once Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s latest injury hit it became a major issue, so mobile options that allow Frank Lampard’s tactics to function must be sourced as a matter of haste.
