Sky Sports pundit would love Everton to pair £50m Ivan Toney with Dominic Calvert-Lewin

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Brentford striker Ivan Toney would “do a great job” for Everton and would be a “real handful” combined with Dominic Calvert-Lewin says Kevin Campbell.

The Mirror reported on 20 August that the Toffees had joined Chelsea and Manchester United in considering moves for the Bees forward as they looked to fill the gap of attacking star Richarlison, and despite the signing of Brighton’s Neal Maupay, the potential exit of Anthony Gordon could still leave the club looking for a headline attacker.

Sky Sports pundit Campbell, a former Everton striker himself, would love to see the English number nine paired with the Toffees own version to form a nightmare match-up for opposing defences, but recognises it will not be a cheap one to pull off.

“I think Ivan Toney would do a great job for Everton,” he said, speaking exclusively to Goodison News.

“Obviously a big club, he knows how to play the striker role, he’s never injured. What is he, 25, 26? Really good age.

“He scores goals and he causes defences problems. He’s fit, he’s strong, and he causes defences major problems.

“So £50million? I don’t know. Brentford could say what they want. The thing is Brentford don’t need to sell so they could say, ‘We want £50million or see you later,’

“So they can make those demands but I think he could do a great job.

“Can you imagine him and Calvert-Lewin up top? That would be a handful, a right handful.”

Considering how light up top Frank Lampard’s line-ups have been forced to be in the opening weeks of the season it would be an absolute dream to see Calvert-Lewin and Toney run out together.

It would take a lot of money to make it happen, and would obviously require the former’s injury luck to improve first, but if Chelsea are successful in prizing Gordon off of Merseyside, Thomas Frank’s front man would certainly fit the bill as the kind of figure who might be worthy of immediate reinvestment.

Even alongside Maupay it would give oppositions a lot to think about, so if the homegrown star winger is to leave there would be some mileage in forcing Brentford to make a decision.
