Everton likely to step up chase to sign Cork City goalkeeper David Harrington

Everton are expected to step up their chase for Cork City goalkeeper David Harrington, as per The Times.

Gary Jacob wrote for the newspaper (online version) on 29 August that the Toffees are likely to make a move for the 22-year-old goalkeeper.

However, chances are high that the Cork City goalkeeper will stay at the club this season.

Begovic worry?

It comes as a surprise that the Toffees are looking to sign a back-up goalkeeper this summer.

Jordan Pickford remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, and Frank Lampard has a reliable option in Asmir Begovic.

Manchester United have shown an interest in signing Begovic this summer, but the Toffees have shown no desire to sell him.

Alex Crook wrote on Twitter on 25 August that the Toffees have refused to sell the veteran goalkeeper, as they couldn’t find a possible replacement.

The Red Devils appear to have moved on as well, as they are being linked with a move for Martin Duvrabka.

Harrington is a young goalkeeper who is probably seen as a back-up for Pickford and could be third-choice as well.

It remains to be seen whether the youngster would be tempted to move. He may remain at the club to continue his progress beyond the summer.

Everton have enjoyed a fruitful summer transfer window, but the last few days could spring up a lot of suprise.
