Everton tell Stake.com to stop using their branding in promotion offer
Everton have reportedly told their main jersey sponsor Stake.com to stop using their branding in an international promotion offer.
According to the Guardian, they have been asked to stop after they used the Toffees players while offering a $10 free bet to anyone who wagers $5,000 in the space of a week.
This promotion on August 24 was targeted to an international audience and not anyone in the UK, despite it being visible to them.
Right thing to do
Gambling sponsors are currently extremely unpopular for their involvement with football clubs and this exactly proves why.
Stake.com’s decision to do this has been met with tremendous scrutiny and many have questioned Everton’s involvement in it.
There have been talks about the government banning these companies outright and we believe that it’s the right thing to do.
Everton look to be isolating themselves from this move by Stake and that’s a good thing as they do not want to be seen as ones encouraging gambling.
Offering free bits for gambling such large sums is sacrilege and deserved all the scrutiny it’s been getting.
Hopefully, the government decides to outlaw these companies from being front of shirt sponsors so then they can look at alternate sponsors.
Stake.com have not yet made an official comment about the same and we’re eagerly awaiting what they have to say.
The Toffees signed a £10million deal with them in June 2020, per The Times.
