Sky Sports pundit wants Everton to sign Scott McTominay after Casemiro arrival

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Scott McTominay will be a “crowd favourite” at Goodison Park if Everton sign the midfielder following Casemiro’s arrival at Old Trafford, says Kevin Campbell.

It was reported by talkSPORT on 20 August that the Toffees had registered their interest in the Scottish international, alongside a number of other Premier League sides, after the Real Madrid star’s move picked up pace, eventually completing for a £70million fee three days later [Sky Sports].

Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes that the arrival of such a high quality player at the same position will make the youngster available to Everton, where he has the hallmarks of a player who could have great success and be loved by the fans.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News he said: “Yeah I do [think he could do a job], I think Scott McTominay’s a very good player, I really do.

“You see because of the standard at Manchester United, he’s been a regular, let’s be honest, he’s been a regular for quite a while.

“Scottish international, he can play centre-half as well if you’re struggling, but in that midfield he’s fit, he’s strong, he can put that foot in, and has scored a couple of goals.

“Maybe he might be surplus to requirements. When you bring a player of Casemiro’s quality in, *laughs* he’s going straight into the side, make no mistake about it.

“But that allows other teams like an Everton to be able to pick up McTominay.

“I think McTominay would be perfect, and I think he’ll be a crowd favourite at Everton because he’s up, at ‘em, and he sticks his foot in.

“So I think he will be a favourite at Goodison Park.”

With Idrissa Gueye’s long-delayed move from Paris Saint-Germain finally reaching a breakthrough it might be that further additions in the midfield are no longer necessary, after Amadou Onana’s big-money signing.

But if McTominay is on the outs in Manchester he might the right kind of profile for the Toffees to consider, although the Morgan Schneiderlin deal should definitely give them pause for thought before they spend big money.

As long as Gueye does arrive in time as is now expected this one might remain on ice, but the door should be kept open until the Senegal international is actually in the building signing his contract.
