Alan Myers: Everton not trying to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo
Everton are not trying to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, as per Alan Myers.
The Toffees have been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old forward, with The Daily Mail reporting on 21 August that they are facing competition from Manchester United.
However, Myers, the Sky Sports journalist, shared on Twitter on 31 August that he was told that the Toffees are not even trying to sign him.
Alan Myers wrote on Twitter: “I’m told Everton are not trying to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV.”
More signings
Gakpo would have a cracking signing for the club. He is an exciting player who scored 21 goals in all competitions for the Dutch club last season.
However, PSV are unwilling to sell him at the cheap. Plus, there is interest from a host of Premier League clubs including Leeds and Southampton, and the price could go up on the deadline day.
Moreover, Everton are operating on a tight budget, and they would struggle to come up with a big-money offer for him, although anything can happen in the transfer window.

There was a possibility that Anthony Gordon could leave the club, but the chances of him departing to Chelsea is very slim now.
The Toffees have signed a striker in Neal Maupay, and Lampard probably will have to be happy with the business done by the club.
The Toffees are also keen to land James Garner, and they have agreed a £15m fee with Manchester United [90 Min] for their highly-rated midfielder.
