Tension grows at Villarreal with Everton in talks to sign winger Samu Chukwueze

Everton are ready to present a loan-to-buy bid of £38.8million to Villarreal for Samu Chukwueze as tension grows at the LaLiga side, according to Marca.

The Spanish news outlet revealed on Wednesday 31 August that an offer is still yet to be submitted for the 23-year-old.

However, it’s understood that Everton are in communication with Villarreal and that “tension has risen” at the Spanish club over the Nigerian international’s departure.

Marca also suggest that if Everton did offer £38.8million, it would be difficult for Villarreal not to sanction a move for the winger.

Get this done

This would be some coup by Everton if they can get a move for Chuckwueze over the line before the window slams shut on 1 September.

He is a player who featured heavily in Villarreal’s run to the Champions League semi-final in the 2021/22 season, in a campaign which saw them beat Bayern Munich over two legs.

If the club hierarchy do stump up the best part of £40million for the 23-year-old winger then it is a real statement of intent from Everton and also displays how much backing Frank Lampard has been given.

Another attacking player is probably the main priority for the club at the moment, with midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye currently on Merseyside to complete his return to Goodison Park, according to Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers (31 August).

After Neal Maupay’s arrival, the need for a striker is certainly less of a priority, but another attacking versatile attacking option for Lampard to call upon would certainly be welcomed at Goodison Park.

It’s been a stressful and hectic summer that has had Evertonians worried at times, but things are looking like they’re finally coming together on the transfer front.
