Everton are set to make a deadline day move for Cork City goalkeeper David Harrington
Everton are set to make a deadline day move to sign Cork City’s 22-year-old goalkeeper David Harrington according to journalist Daniel McDonnell.
The Echo reported on 29 August that the Toffees had made a £50,000 bid for the young keeper.
Irish Independent reporter McDonnell has since revealed (via Twitter, 1 September) that Everton are expected to make a six-figure bid for the shot-stopper.
It’s also understood that there will be additional clauses on top of their offer for Harrington.
One for the future
It’s clear that the 22-year-old is one for the future at Goodison Park with Jordan Pickford very much the number one for Frank Lampard at present.
However, it is good to see the Toffees delve into the Irish market, with plenty of talent still to be unearthed in the League of Ireland.

A six-figure fee in today’s market is like pocket change to the majority of Premier League clubs and picking players up for next to nothing can see teams make a huge profit on their small investment in the future.
Should Harrington go on to be a success at Goodison Park, his value would easily increase tenfold.
This is the type of long-term planning that we have all been waiting for and it’s good to see it finally unfold after a stressful summer of transfer business.
If the Toffees do get a deal over the line for Harrington, it would make sense for the club to loan the young keeper back out to Cork City, so he can continue his development and play regular first-team football.
